Idea Development

This week I further developed my ideas before narrowing it down to one, below is a rough draft of my notes on how I could go about generating ideas as well as potential topics I would base my documentary on.

In my brainstorm I wrote down what would be the main focus in the film as well as the potential issues I would need to overcome.

Brainstorm/Rough Notes

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

-Check current events/affairs

-Look at local stories in leeds

-What theme do you want to focus it on (political, celebrity, trends, social media, informative documentary on a relevant medical issue, etc)

-How can you link it back to the present time

-Documentary style: cinematic but what? Fun, formal, serious? What is the tone?

-Target audience (demographic), something universal (deliveroo takeout driver for example, or uber driver (struggles for example)

DOCUMENTARY IDEAS

The backseat of the uber driver/The uber driver’s backseat

-The struggles of an uber driver, their daily job role

-Also factual information involving uber driver statistics (competition between other uber drivers, competition between uber vs other companies)

POTENTIAL ISSUES

-They may not be allowed to talk about their job openly (NDA or could get fired)
-Because of their job risk they could only talk about their job positively

-How are you going to source/contact an uber driver

The shotgirl

-What it is like being a shotgirl, working in the entertainment/hospitality industry

-Experiences (the bad and the good)

POTENTIAL ISSUES

-They may not be allowed to talk about their job openly (NDA or could get fired)
-Because of their job risk they could only talk about their job positively

-The head of the company may not agree to doing an interview/talking about it which makes it less credible

-Would have less factual information on the subject, not enough data to back it up as the topic is quite niche

-Not as relevant, more of a niche topic to discuss (not a global topic, less relevant to all ages)

Euphoria

-The latest tv show taking the internet by storm: does it glorify drug abuse, sexual assault?

-Impact of the show on viewers

POTENTIAL ISSUES

-Again, more of an Internet topic, as it originates from America it isn't relevant on a larger audience scale in terms of age and culture

The tinder hoax (inspired by a YouTube video on Tinder)

-Tinder’s algorithm and how it benefits the company, not you

-You will never find “the one”

-The statistics (how many people meet from there, how many stay together, how much time is spent on the app)

-General public opinion

POTENTIAL ISSUES

-How will you source and select people to interview (such a wide selection)

-It reaches a large target audience but how many people besides uni students will you be able to get access to who are willing to participate in interviews?

-As this is based around an app, will their be copyright/censorship issues?

-How will you source the data required to backup your statistics/claims?

Serving Pretty Privilege

-Exploring the term "pretty privilege", what it is, who and how it impacts people in society

-Mix of factual and opinionated

-Focused specifically on the hospitality sector in society

POTENTIAL ISSUES

-Not very talked about in society, lack of information on the subject

-May be hard to find subjects will compelling stories, opinions and things to say on the matter

-Because it isn't as talked about/well known, there is a lot to cover on the topic
